Nos rios da Amazônia vive um animal aquático chamado (1) boto-cor-de-rosa, um animal real que parece com um golfinho.
As pessoas contam que, em noites de (2) lua cheia no mês de junho, durante as festas juninas, ele sai das águas e se transforma em um homem muito bonito, elegante e (3) muito charmoso.
Quando o boto cor de rosa se transforma em um homem, ele usa roupas muito elegantes: camisa e calça brancas, sapatos brancos e um chapéu sempre na cabeça. Mas o chapéu não é (4) só estilo — ele (5) esconde um segredo.
A transformação não é perfeita, e no topo da cabeça ainda ficam as (6) narinas do boto cor de rosa. Por isso, ele precisa disfarçar bem para não ser reconhecido.
Com uma fala envolvente e (7) jeito conquistador, ele circula pelas festas em busca de uma jovem mulher para (8) seduzir.
Depois de conquistar uma linda jovem e passar uma noite de amor com ela, ele desaparece antes do amanhecer, voltando silenciosamente para o rio.

As pessoas contam que, em noites de (2) lua cheia no mês de junho, durante as festas juninas, ele sai das águas e se transforma em um homem muito bonito, elegante e (3) muito charmoso. (People say that, on (2) full moon nights in the month of June, during the June festivals, he comes out of the water and turns into a man who is very handsome, elegant, and (3) very charming.)
Mas o chapéu não é (4) só estilo — ele (5) esconde um segredo. (But the hat isn’t (4) just for style — it (5) hides a secret.)
A transformação não é perfeita, e no topo da cabeça ainda ficam as (6) narinas do boto cor de rosa. (The transformation isn’t perfect, and at the top of his head the pink river dolphin’s (6) nostrils remain.)
Por isso, ele precisa disfarçar bem para não ser reconhecido. (That’s why he needs to disguise himself well so as not to be recognized.)

(Without ever knowing the father, the child grows up hearing an old and mysterious explanation from the community: that the child’s father is the “boto” — the river dolphin.)
